The 10 Essentials for Fall

Fall Must-Haves

In no particular order, I've put together a list of the 10 basic items I believe are must-haves for fall! I love fall and being able to layer up and create different outfits with just a few pieces from my wardrobe.

Being a college student especially, the funds for brand new fall items every year just aren't available right now. With that said, being able to continually create new outfits with the same few pieces is wonderful and could possibly be why I love the fall season so much {who really grows out of dressing up??}. Well, and I really love pumpkin (everything!), but that's for another day ;)

Lets get started!

#1 The Riding Boot
Alfani

Riding boots are something that I feel never really go out of style- I've worn one pair for 3 seasons! This is a piece that you can feel good about investing a little extra into because of the quality (that you pay for) and the ability to reuse them next season. They also go with pretty much every fall outfit imaginable and transition well into winter. I recommend getting a pair in both black and brown. These are no longer in stock at Macy's but I've linked some similar options HERE, HERE, and HERE. The Torys are on my wishlist for sure!

#2 The Flannel
NorthFace
I love flannel tops because they are SO versatile. Feeling chilly? Throw on a flannel over your basic tee. Feeling warm? Roll up the sleeves for a casual look. Flannels also come in many different thicknesses and lengths making some of them the perfect throw-on over a pair of leggings on those cold winter mornings. Find similar pieces HERE, HERE (love this one!), and HERE.

#3 The Dress/Holiday Outfit
Vest: Target, Dress: Target, Necklace: Cato
Dresses in fall are genius. Simply pair them with your favorite booties and you're good to go. Or, during winter, pull on some leggings and riding boots for a {very} comfy and chic look. The best part, it'll look like you tried really hard when really you just rolled out bed, pulled your hair into a topknot and put on the comfiest outfit you've ever lived in. This outfit would be perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas when you're {for some reason} trying to look super spectacular while standing around the pumpkin pie and presents. ;) This vest is the most similar to the one I found! Also, this dress is under $40 (at Nordstrom!)

 #4 The Puffy Vest
White: Croft & Barrow, Black: Etsy (monogrammed)
Wine: Calvin Klein, Striped: Etsy (monogrammed), Grey: Artisan NY, Pattern: Rafaella, Navy: Forever 21
Puffy vests are my go-to during the chilly season because they're so easy to just pop on. Also, there are so many options that you can find a different one for any outfit you so choose.

#5 The Basic Tee/Tunic
White: Express, Black: Target
Black & white long sleeves are no-brainers during fall because of their versatility. Layer them under a vest or wear alone with a blanket scarf. I love layering with a lot of different colors, but I felt that black and white were two of the most essential for this post.

 #6 The Denim Jacket

U.S. Polo Assn.
Denim jackets are perfect for helping you to transition into fall with the dresses you don't want to leave behind this season. I especially love this one because it has some distressing and the cuffed sleeves add the perfect touch of casual. This one is very similar!

#7 The Bootie
Top: Dr. Scholl's, Bottom: Old Navy
So many booties were on sale at Nordstrom this year during the anniversary sale, but I actually found mine at even lower prices at Old Navy and DSW. These are perfect with a dress or a rolled up pair of jeans and since they are available at so many places and in so many varieties, you can be sure to find a pair that you love. These are similar to the camel pair and for a more affordable pair, go HERE, HERE, or HERE

#8 The Chambray Shirt
Target
I mentioned this piece in my previous post, but I listed it under this post as well because I felt that a chambray shirt can be worn in so many different ways during fall and year-round. Wear alone with colored jeans or under a puffy vest. I especially love this one (like I said in my previous post ) because it's longer in the back and covers your booty if you want to wear leggings with boots! The one pictured above is linked HERE, but find similar options HERE or HERE (I love that the buttons are covered in this one & under $40!).

#9 The Cardigan/Wine Pant
Cardigan: Belldini, Pants: American Eagle Outfitters
Cardigans are great for covering your shoulders when it's a bit chilly and you can never go wrong layering with a cute tank. Cardigans of all different types are available, but I love this camel colored one. I think this color will be really popular this season. Wine-colored pants are a great addition to your wardrobe besides just having blue or black denim. I found some beautiful (and cozy!) cardigan options HERE and HERE and I've linked the pants HERE.

#10 The Half-Zip Pullover/Denim Skinny
Pull-over: Marley Lilly, Pants: Lauren Conrad
I actually have about 6 or 7 half-zips and I absolutely love how easy they are to just pull on especially on those days where you are seriously rushing to get out the door on time! Pair with jeans for an extra casual look. Another piece you'll want to have in your closet is a pair of denim skinny jeans/jeggings. They are easy to tuck into boots and look perfect with booties. I'm trying really hard to get my hands on a distressed pair because so many bloggers are styling them and I just love how they look so effortless. This exact pullover is no longer is production (it's from last season), however I've linked a similar one from Marley Lilly HERE. These pants are linked HERE and I've also linked some of the distressed jeans I mentioned above HERE and HERE!

I hope this post helped you decide on what you really need for this upcoming fall season!

XOXO, Katelyn
